Disinfecting Plants
Ardan Huck May 27, 2002

Untergasser in "Handbook of Fish Diseases" (1989 by TFH Publications Inc.) suggests to disinfect plants with alum before placing the plants in an aquarium.

I don't know if it takes care of bacteria or parasites or both (parasite eggs?). Untergasser (1989) states plants could "transmit pathogens and their various resting stages" to disinfect, Untergasser states, "dissolve a heaped teaspoon of alum in one liter of water, soak the plants for 5 minutes, rinse thoroughly, then place in aquarium".
