Untergasser in "Handbook of Fish Diseases" (1989 by TFH Publications Inc.) suggests to disinfect plants with alum before placing the plants in an aquarium. I don't know if it takes care of bacteria or parasites or both (parasite eggs?). Untergasser (1989) states plants could "transmit pathogens and their various resting stages" to disinfect, Untergasser states, "dissolve a heaped teaspoon of alum in one liter of water, soak the plants for 5 minutes, rinse thoroughly, then place in aquarium".
